Standing Firm in the Face of Hate

The Modern Military Association of America works toward creating fairness and equality for the LGBTQ+ military and veteran community. The nonprofit has accomplished various legislative successes, including a lawsuit ensuring that individuals with HIV could commission, and the organization was the plaintiff against former President Donald Trump's transgender military service ban.

As the CEO, Jennifer Dane talks about the difficulties the nonprofit faces when it comes to this political climate and community perception and support. Both the Administration and the political lean in Congress influence the Modern Military Association of America's ability to advocate for the LGBTQ+ military and veteran community. Jennifer talks about the stark differences between the Trump Administration and the Biden Administration when it came to resources and support. She highlighted the disconnect between much of society and LGBTQ+ veterans—while the public claims to honor those who serve, queer veterans endure hate and death threats for advancing rights of LGBTQ+ veterans and service members.
